Greetings,

Special greetings to all fathers and those who fulfill the function and ministry of the father, as we mark and celebrate Father鈥檚 Day on Sunday 4th September. Fatherhood is a special ministry as is motherhood.

St John Baptist de La Salle formed the first Brothers of the Institute using father and mother as a metaphor, encouraging the Brothers to have the gentleness of a mother and firmness of a father. The student-teacher relationship in a Lasallian school is modelled on the special role and relationship a father and mother have with their children.

Br Jeffrey Calligan fsc gives us an insight into what St John Baptist de La Salle understood by this special role and relationship of a father through De La Salle鈥檚 writing on God the Father, one of the three persons of the Holy Trinity: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. (Today we would likely use more inclusive language in respect and representing all persons). God the Father is marked by two qualities: wisdom and gentleness. This God does not condemn. This God knows humankind and loves and accepts its imperfection. This God is the font of all equity and mercy. There is no harshness in this God. This God accompanies each person in each step of life. This God is companion and guide: accompanies, listens, watches, and informs with subtlety and vibrancy. These are the qualities de La Salle expected of the first Brothers in their ministry of teaching the young men and women in their care, like God the Father, and we today expect of all Lasallian teachers.

St John Baptist de La Salle describes God the Father very much as he saw his own father and the ministry of fatherhood. Fatherhood is an important ministry that we need to cherish and respect, show gratitude for and celebrate. Let us not forget to pray and care for our fathers, always, but especially on Father鈥檚 Day.

To conclude and to commend the pursuit of excellence, I congratulate staff and students for their accomplishments in Winter Sport with the College Tennis Team winning many Divisions and ISA Champions for 2022. In addition, 缅北强奸 Rugby were Grade Champions of most Grades including the 1st XV, with 缅北强奸 named ISA Rugby Champions for 2022. I also commend to you the upcoming Performing Arts, Visual Arts and TAS HSC Showcase Events where Year 12 students present their Major Works. I also congratulate staff and students for their generosity and sense of service, compassion, and empathy for the upcoming Jersey Day on Friday 2nd September and Mission Action Day (MAD) on Wednesday 7th September.

This concern only applies to one or two recent cases, and we thank our parents/guardians for your support in words, deeds, and actions. Your modelling of appropriate behaviour is always appreciated and highly respected.

In Week 5 at our Friday Morning, we celebrated our Performing Arts Mass. We are very blessed at the College to have such talented staff and students.

The last two years of Covid have been hard on Peforming Arts, many performances being cancelled.

缅北强奸's Mission Action Day (MAD) is on Wednesday 7th September. For those that haven't been to Mission Action Day before it is one of the biggest student and staff events on the calendar with rides, food, bands, games and much more, as we raise money to build a kitchen for the Breakfast Club quarters in Papua New Guinea. 

The theme for the day is: Superhero's - we encourage students to dress up to join in the action!

Congratulations to Xander Diomampo, Lasallian Captain (Year 12), who has received the prestigious Bishop of Parramatta award.

This annual award is given to one Year 12 student from each Catholic school in the Diocese of Parramatta. It recognises students who witness their Catholic faith and achieve well in their academic, sporting, creative, vocational or community endeavours. Xander deserves this award as he is very involved in all aspects of life at the College.

缅北强奸 is exceptionally proud to announce the FDC Scholarship Program is on again this year, for Year 12, Class of 2022. This exciting scholarship opportunity gives 缅北强奸 graduates unparalleled prospects to jump-start their career journey within a leading construction company. 缅北强奸 is pleased to have collaborated with FDC - our builder on this scholarship initiative. The FDC Scholarship Program provides the unique opportunity to combine part-time study with practical and relevant work experience, building a successful and rewarding career at FDC all while you are being paid.

Last week's early morning turnout at our Construction Industry Careers Breakfast was incredible. Senior students had the unique opportunity to hear from industry professionals about this growing, exciting, multi-faceted industry and the many fields available to 缅北强奸 graduates.

Our distinguished Guest Speakers were: Mr Damon Malek, Construction Manager, Ms Brittney Wells (Class of 2017), Contracts Manager, and Mr Jacob Liddle (Class of 2021), Construction Management Cadet all from FDC Building; Mr Farah Georges, Director Design Cubicle Pty Ltd; Mrs Laura Walsh, Registered Land Surveyor, City Infrastructure & Traffic Operations City of Sydney; Mr Peter Geoghegan (Class of 1985), Managing Director of Geotron Pty Ltd; Ms Lourdes Sanchez-Liamas, Technical Services Manager Holcim Australia Pty Ltd; and Ms Amy Ferguson, Student Ambassador from Western Sydney University.

Students also heard from FDC about the exciting scholarship opportunity available again this year to a Class of 2022 缅北强奸 graduate. Listening to last year's recipient, Jacob, and hearing his enthusiasm and gratitude for this career opportunity was very valuable. Congratulations to Chanelle Odendaal (Year 12) who is the first student this year to receive an Accounting Cadetship with Pitcher Partners Accounting firm.

Chanelle first heard about the Cadetship when she attended the Business, Finance and Property Careers Breakfast on Wednesday 1st June 2022. 缅北强奸 Alumni Mr Nicholas Russo (Class of 2019), spoke about his Accounting Cadetship with Pitcher Partners which has already led to him being promoted to Accountant. Nicholas encouraged students to apply for the Cadetship as a pathway to a successful career in business. Chanelle will commence her Accounting Cadetship with Pitcher Partners in 2023.

In addition, Chanelle is one of 56 students who received an offer for the B of Commerce in the 1st round of Leaders and Achieves Early Offers from Macquarie University.

We wish Chanelle every success in her future career with Pitcher Partners and congratulate all students who have received early offers over the last few weeks at Australian Catholic University, Macquarie University, Western Sydney University and other universities in the last few weeks.

Congratulations to Grace Walker-Rolls (Year 12) who has won the Sydney Entertainment Award in the 2022 VET Awards presented by The Skill Engineer Ltd. 

Grace was nominated for this award as she has been an integral part of our VET team and has worked extensively on every College production since started at 缅北强奸 in Year 11, including being Stage Manager for the recent College Musical - Les Miserables.

In support of Jersey Day on Friday 2nd September, 缅北强奸 is again allowing students to wear their favourite jersey over their College uniform. For those of you that don鈥檛 know, Jersey Day is not a fundraising day. It is a day to raise awareness about organ and tissue donation, start the conversation with your family and friends, and register your wishes online. 

缅北强奸 is a proud supporter of Jersey Day, which began when Nathan Gremmo (Class of 2019) was killed in 2015. His family selflessly chose to donate Nathan's organs, giving the gift of life to six other people.

You are invited to see some spectacular Major Works on Tuesday 30th August in Benildus Hall.

This Year 8 History incursion by 鈥淜ing Tut Road Show鈥� was sensational, featuring insight into the lives of Ancient Egyptians and unveiling the mysteries behind the Pharaoh Tutankhamun and his death. Our incursion consisted of five activities: archaeology, writing, video displays, seals and the main part of the incursion consisted of visiting the museum in the 鈥楾ut Truck鈥�. The 鈥榮eals鈥� activity allowed Year 8 students the chance to create our own seals -which Ancient Egyptians used every day as their own credit cards, and we were also given the chance to mould our own seals using clay. The archeology activity allowed us to be forensic archaeologists and use our new skills to try and solve the mystery of how Ancient Egyptians died. We also got to hold pottery items over 4000 years old!

Next, we completed a writing activity, as we learnt about the first types of paper and pens used to write and draw. The Tutankhamun Truck was the day's main activity and featured the ancient replicas of evidence of the life of Tutankhamun and his people. This was all explained by an in-depth video that was projected onto all four sides of the room, with ancient artefacts scattered throughout the trailer. Overall, this day was fantastic as we learnt more about the Ancient Egyptians and the hidden secrets and mysteries revolving around King Tutankhamun鈥檚 death.

Year 9 Design & Technology have been working on their lastest task titled 鈥楩loat your boat鈥�. Students worked in groups to come up with a boat design which would travel as far as possible in the College pool using only the power of a rubberband. Across three classes, the students found a range of tools and materials to test as their boat while being created. Over the last two weeks, all classes ran their boats as part of the task to see how they all worked under the guidelines of the assessment with distance and direction being the main focus.

This week, we held the 鈥�2022 缅北强奸 Regatta鈥�, where three boats from each class raced to see who would be the ultimate winner. The boys have worked very hard both in and out of the classroom to design and engineer some unique crafts. The winners of the 缅北强奸 Regatta were Matthew Kaddis and Henry Howse who received a trophy for their efforts and bragging rights.

Design and Technology is a great subject where students can challenge themselves to come up with solutions to everyday problems and allows creative minds to come together and explore endless possibilities.

Students are constantly challenged by the various activities and tasks presented to them in Visual Arts. Most flourish when given the opportunity to create artwork. When selecting the Artist of the Month for May, we looked for someone who wasn鈥檛 deterred by what they were asked to do. 

In Year 10 Visual Arts our topic was Man Machine Movement. The students selected an object that in essence had some mechanical component and that could move. The students were tasked to draw, a large-scale interpretation of their object using a range of grey lead pencils. Following this, they created a futuristic collage with multiple copies of their rendered drawing. To stretch the students further, they were also required to create a micro-scale 3-Dimensional, soapstone sculpture of their chosen object, focusing on a small detail of it. 

Whilst there are many deserving recipients of this award, the most consistent effort and application were demonstrated by Cecil Waters Marsh (Year 10). Congratulations on receiving this award.

Library staff are always readily available to assist students with their work. Recently, Year 9 students learnt valuable skills to assist with their Geography assessment. These skills include a sequencing activity for Harvard referencing, identifying appropriate tools for using Google Images and writing judgement statements for the Geography assessment.

Conor Kerr has been selected as June鈥檚 artist of the month. Here is Kerr鈥檚 series of four lino prints where the boys were inspired by William Dobell鈥檚 controversial winning Archibald painting of Joshua Smith. The portrait created great debate in 1943, was it a caricature or a portrait? Here Phil Organ is sporting the full beard and wavey hair of the returning traveller. Conor using the dynamic angle and foreshortening to emphasise Mr Organ鈥檚 presence at 缅北强奸 in his role as Dean of Year 8. The tessellations in the background reference his Maths teaching. 

Conor鈥檚 ability and interest in Visual Arts became evident in Year 7 when he joined students in Art Club. He has the ability to move from 2D to 3D forms with confidence and a willingness to experiment with media. Conor鈥檚 most recent artworks address the latest unit of study Places and Spaces. His miniature house has been decorated with embossing, representing the textures of his family home. These textures include the vent on the computer, oven grill, floorboards, and pen lid. In the early stages of this unit, Conor ability to draw accurately demonstrates his understanding of linear perspective.

This term, Year 10 History have been undertaking a study of the Holocaust. As part of the course, students are encouraged to reflect on different forms of Jewish resistance during this period. 

Isaac Tocher challenged himself to write this poem on Janusz Korczak- a Polish Jewish educator who rejected the Nazis鈥� offer of sanctuary and chose to sacrifice his life and march alongside the orphaned children he had looked after. They marched towards their deaths at Treblinka extermination camp. He and the children were never heard from again.

The HSC Visual Arts student selected for the month of July has exceptional creative ability, and has created an outstanding series of work which reflects his interest in fashion. We would like to congratulate Seth Panganiban on his amazing series of work exploring his interest in fashion and its effects on how we are viewed in our social groups. Seth is an exceptional artist and this has been reflected through his use of animation and digital drawing. He is a focused and hard-working student who has the ability to convey his ideas as well as his own unique style in a visual way.

Our senior students have been working long and hard over the past months to complete their Major Works in Visual Arts. As they refine their concepts and strengthen their artmaking skills, our students have continued to demonstrate excellence in their chosen expressive forms. We are all looking forward to seeking their final submission on display next week. 

It is always difficult to select only one recipient when there are many students who have worked in such a sophisticated and diligently manner. However, with an impressive attitude, and a willingness to regularly seek feedback and develop her work beyond class time, Gabriela Chu Barbosa (Year 12) has been awarded Artist of the Month for August with her sophisticated, thoughtful three-panel acrylic paintings. Congratulations Gabriela on this award.

Here are three things you can do to earn a Reading Boost merit and add to your reading portfolio:

3. Create a response to your reading in the form of an image or meme and upload it on the . 

Students will be invited to submit their reading portfolio at the beginning of Term 4 with evidence of the different reading activities they have completed over two terms.

2023 Rugby Tour to New Zealand

缅北强奸 will be travelling to New Zealand in April 2023. All Year 11 and 12 (2023) rugby players are eligible to travel with this squad. You may have seen Ms Sally Faehrmann, (Sports Captain and Class of 2019) on Better Homes and Gardens on Friday 19th August. She contacted BH&G to help a close family who have been struck by tragedy. Sally's best friend Ellie had been fighting cancer for four years when her brother Zack died suddenly following an infection. Six months after his death, Ellie lost her battle with cancer. The Egan family have been dealing with so much grief and sadness, so Sally decided to do something to help them.

BH&G completed a beautiful make-over for the family as they shared stories and memories of Ellie and Zack.

You may have seen Sally at 缅北强奸 as she is still very involved in College life, particularly Girls Sports.

Congratulations to Mr Jayden Moujalli (Class of 2021) who will be having his HSC TAS Major Work, Eastern Creek Redesigned (Industrial Technology Graphics) displayed at the 2022 InTech Exhibition at Rosehill Race Course. Congratulations to Mr Matthew Clayton (Class of 2020) who has won first place in Division One, Slopestyle Skiing at the Australian Interschools Championship. This competition has been delayed for two years due to COVID. Matthew was invited to attend this delayed inter-school event and. represent 缅北强奸.

Matthew is currently studying a Bachelor of Sports Management, Coaching at ACPE. We wish him all the best for his skiing future.

The Butterfly Foundation is hosting a free parent webinar on Monday 12th September at 7pm on body image in children and adolescents. The session focuses on prevention and provides information and practical tips to help parents better understand and promote positive body image in the home.

Topics covered include:

• Overview of body image and the importance of prevention
• Key influences on body image, including social media
• The impact of diet culture and weight stigma
• Reducing appearance talk and how to respond when a child expresses negativity towards themselves/others
• The power of role modelling positive body image and healthy behaviours
• Understanding warning signs and the importance of early intervention
• What to do if you are concerned.

Please note this session is not designed for children to attend or for those caring for someone with an eating disorder.
