Greetings,

Marcus Aurelius once said 鈥淏ecause a thing is difficult for you, do not therefore suppose it to be beyond mortal power. On the contrary, if anything is possible and proper for man to do, assume that it must fall within your own capacity鈥�. God has given all of us talents and as a Catholic Lasallian school, it is our duty to inspire students to aspire to greatness 鈥� to be the best that they can be in all aspects of their lives. To 鈥榣et their light shine鈥�, any less is denying the possibilities of creation itself. Whether it be the upcoming HSC or End of Year 11 exams, classwork and assignments, the Allwell or NAPLAN assessments, rugby, dance or drama, the service of others, a Lasallian Youth Leader, the smile as we enter the door, the honesty and respect we show to others, we are to do all things to the best of our ability.

On Friday 20th June, the College Assembly recognised several hundred students in academics, sport, dance, drama and in co-curricular activities for their hard work, dedication, diligence and commitment 鈥� fine representatives of 缅北强奸 doing all things to the best of their ability.

In this Newsletter I would also like to express my appreciation to all the wonderful parents who contribute to the life of the College through the Gala Day, the Musical, as coaches and/or managers of teams, or on the sidelines of fields, sports courts, theatres and classrooms. All research shows that parental engagement in whatever form correlates strongly with higher levels of academic achievement and personal success of their children. Parents being parents to the best of their ability.

Over the past week I have received three unsolicited emails to enquiries@oakhill reporting and affirming the College on incredible leadership and civility shown by 缅北强奸 students in the community. It takes a village to raise a child. Together staff and parents are that village and form wonderful young men and women. To the wonderful young men and women, thank you for trusting us and supporting our vision for you. You do well!

Year 11 is presently in the first rounds of the College leadership process for 2025. The Forbes magazine defines leadership as 鈥渁 process of in which one person can enlist the aid and of others in the accomplishment of a common ", or in its ontological form, a leader is someone who gets people to realise their own future. Lao Tzu, a contemporary of Confucius, defines leadership as 鈥渨hen his work is done, his aim fulfilled, they will say: we did it ourselves鈥�. I describe this more simply and metaphorically as someone who plants seeds (ideas) and helps them grow (service). Leaders are people who do stuff and make stuff happen 鈥� a process of social influence.

Leadership that inspires and enables others to improve their lives is to be encouraged as it is a catalyst for improvement and growth. Quality, service oriented, and entrepreneurial leadership doesn鈥檛 just happen. Leadership that moves a situation from good to better to best will happen more effectively when it is nurtured.

For Reflection:
Mark 3:20-35 spoke about people misunderstanding Jesus, but it never stopped Jesus from being who He was to be. We also experience being misunderstood often and often it is painful. Several years ago, Fr Vincent from St Madeleines, Kenthurst, wrote, 鈥淭here is a time in our lives when we are misunderstood, misinterpreted, discarded, unloved and criticized. How do you face such moments in your life? Who is the source of inspiration for you to brush aside all the mockeries and invalidations and move on in your life? I wonder how people deal with such debilitation without faith and connectedness. Jesus can be a 鈥榬efuge, fortress and shield鈥� to face the unfair criticism and treatment we all experience鈥�. Faith ought to lead us to be men and women of compassion and kindness.

Kindness I believe is underestimated 鈥� such simple small acts of kindness can have a huge impact on our own mental wellbeing and that of others. Simply put, be kind to one another in thought, deed and action: kindness that is inclusive; kindness that is respectful; kindness that is accepting; kindness that is empowering.

Every Friday from now until the end of Term 3, students will be making and selling cupcakes at Recess and Lunchtime for $1 and $2. Students will visit the yards to sell the cupcakes, and all proceeds go towards buying materials and assisting with fundraising efforts for the Lasallians Without Borders Immersion trips to India and Fiji later this year.

缅北强奸 recently hosted Elijah, Jess, and Stephanie from . They expressed heartfelt gratitude for the College's ongoing support of The Ration Challenge since 2018, during which we have raised over $141,000. 缅北强奸 continues to be the highest fundraising school in Australia, and with 122 students participating in the Ration Challenge this week, and already raising over $54,000 we are on track to become the largest fundraising organisation to participate in Australian in 2024.

Elijah shared his poignant story of fleeing war as a young refugee, deeply moving our students and emphasising the urgent need for action. Their powerful message鈥�"Take the challenge, raise money, change lives"鈥攔esonated with everyone.

With 114 million people currently fleeing their homes, it's time to address one of the biggest challenges refugees face: food. By learning about the refugee experience firsthand, our students are demonstrating solidarity that changes lives.

DLS-CAN is a newly formed association that promotes the Lasallian Mission and builds awareness and community support for this important cause.

The launch on Friday night 14th June was a huge success, with many Lasallian staff, students, alumni and associations coming together. The goal is to create a Lasallian Business Network, connecting current and former professionals, tradespeople, business owners, and others within the Lasallian community. This network will provide a platform for trusted services to be advertised and utilised.

On Wednesday 10th June, Mr Brion Martyn was honoured with the Rotary Teacher of Excellence Award, joining the esteemed ranks of previous 缅北强奸 recipients Ms Deborah Gillis, Ms Deborah Stokes, and Mr Jason Rophail. Brion has been a cornerstone of 缅北强奸 for twenty-five years, commencing as a full-time teacher in 1999. He is highly respected as an outstanding educator of Science and leader in wellbeing, holding the position of House Dean in the College's Pastoral Care structure.

Brion is an inspiring and motivational educator who has been at the forefront of promoting the wellbeing, resilience and academic growth of young men and women at 缅北强奸 for the past 20 years. In this role he has been unwavering in his support, compassion and empathy of students and families in need through his commitment to our Lasallian values. He is highly respected amongst his colleagues for his dedication to the wellbeing of all, his mentoring of new staff and willingness to share ideas, resources and insights. In addition, Brion has made significant contributions to the formation of the 缅北强奸 Graduate which aims at developing resilient, well rounded and grounded young men and women, who engage with the community and aspire to reach their full potential.

Providing quality education is a core value Brion emulates in his teaching; through providing academic care which is consistent and innovative. As an educator, he fosters within his students a passion for discovery, diversity and civic responsibility. Brion鈥檚 strengths lie in his interpersonal skills, organisational proficiency and reflective and discerning manner. He is an extraordinarily effective teacher and is highly respected by all at 缅北强奸 and within the wider College community.

We are proud to celebrate Brion's remarkable contributions to 缅北强奸 and look forward to many more years of his inspirational leadership and dedication.

As published in 缅北强奸's calendars, Term 2 concludes on Friday 28th June and students return in full College winter uniform on Monday 22nd July for Term 3.

In late April 2024, Rohrig commenced site establishment and construction for our latest project. Over the past two months, significant progress has been made through demolition, bulk and detailed excavation, and piling activities. In the coming weeks, Rohrig will focus on progressing the substructure phase, including reo fixing and concrete pours, to ensure the foundational elements are robust and ready for the next phases of construction.

This week, we were pleased to welcome back Mr Nick McKenzie (Class of 2023) to 缅北强奸. Nick returned to share his journey and the exciting opportunities available through the UTS Bachelor of Information Technology Co-op program. As a current BIT student and award recipient, Nick has gained a wealth of experiences. He inspired our students with his story and encouraged them to explore and apply for this incredible program.

Today, Friday 21st June College staff and students gathered together to celebrate achievement.  Students were recognised and rewarded for their achievements in a range of areas within the College encompassing academic, sporting and co-curricular efforts. 

The College was also fortunate to be entertained by a preview of 'Super Trooper' sung beautifully by the cast of the College Musical, Mamma Mia.  Paul Mejalli (Year 9) also shared his reflection on the life lessons and experiences he shared with those who attended the College Vietnam Tour in the April school holidays.

This term, Year 7 has delved into the exciting topic of "Water in the World," embarking on a fieldwork excursion to Manly Dam. Provided with extensive opportunities to hone their geographical skillset, students built water filters, tested soil and water pH, and even caught and released various animals to assess the health of the catchment and surrounding ecological systems.

Year 7 Student, Noah Schirripa, summed it up perfectly. 

"After the 1 hour bus ride, we finally arrived at the Manly Dam. It was cold but very exciting. We did so many fun activities such as looking at topographic maps, weather forecasting, field sketching on top of the dam wall and even made our own water filter with limited materials! During the bushwalk we stopped at a waterfall and went net fishing through the creek. We also tested the dam water, creek water and soil and learnt about the impacts of contaminated water. Finally, we arrived back at school with a very muddy new look!"

During Term 1, Year 8 students explored Indigenous Art through a cultural Immersion Incursion. Students were asked to write a journey story that they had been on, and then transform that into a body of work through a canvas and a clay bowl. Matthew Axiak (Year 8) has created a bright and vivid interpretation of his family and life journey, showcasing his commitment to Visual Art through his bold use of paint and posca pens. A worthy recipient of Artist of the Month, Matt always gives his all when completing artworks. Well done Matt!

Year 10 Visual Arts have been studying a unit called Man, Machine, Movement. Students had to choose a machine part that moved or had moving parts to create a body of work. Sam Akle (Year 10) has produced a very detailed drawing of a rocket engine. Sam鈥檚 tireless and painstaking work has created an excellent body of work, with a sculpture still to come. Sam is a worthy recipient of May Artist of the Month, well done Sam!

The Visual Arts Faculty at 缅北强奸 are lucky to have so many talented young artists in each year group. These students are talented in a multitude of areas, and are willing to push their skills to new heights by experimenting and exploring many new materials and techniques. Each month the Visual Arts staff select a student to be our Artist of the Month. Their artwork must reflect a high level of artistic skill as well a sophisticated conceptual focus.

Year 8 Visual Arts were our focus for Artist of the Month in June. One student has risen to the occasion and shows exceptional skill and talent in each artmaking task he completes. This is definitely an area he should continue to develop and grow. We would like to congratulate the Artist of the Month for June, Bryson Samuel. Bryson should be commended for always working consistently and diligently in Visual Arts. His talent with depicting the likeness of someone through portraiture is outstanding. Well done Bryson.

Students in Web.Comp (Beginners) learn to write web pages in HTML and CSS while competing with students from around the world. The Beginners stream is designed for students with no prior experience of web development, and covers everything necessary to start building real websites.

Our students did very well gaining 14 Perfect Scores, 42 High Distinctions, 1 Distinction and 3 Credits.

On Thursday 6th June, the Drama Department held its third annual Year 7 Monologue Finals Competition themed 'A Devious Plan!' The competition showcased over 354 captivating monologues, from which the top 20 finalists emerged, representing all 16 drama classes in the Grand Final. The Miguel Lecture Theatre was abuzz with parents, students, teachers, and supporters, eagerly cheering on the competitors during their performance. Mr. Turbott and the Entertainment crew transformed the theatre with dazzling lighting and a playlist featuring rock hits from ACDC to Steppenwolf. Each participant nervously but bravely took to the stage, radiating a mix of nerves and adrenaline.

Judging was no easy task for the panel of esteemed judges, Mr Philip Joseph and Mr James Ransome-Haberley (both Class of 2022), and Drama Captain Nicholas Gomez, as they meticulously scored each performance to determine the top three placements. Hugo Hulme of 7DRA12 claimed third place, while Noah Rhee of 7DRA09 went in second place, both students of Mr Flanagan's classes. The ultimate champion, Vivaan Bochare of 7DRA15, secured first place, along with the prestigious trophy, prizes, and accolades. A special mention goes to Vivaan's class teacher, Ms Borg, who graciously prevented Mr Flanagan from achieving a three-year winning streak in her first year. Congratulations are also in order for the other dedicated Drama teachers, Mr Turbott and Mr Thoroughgood, for nurturing such outstanding competitors.

All 20 grand finalists exhibited exceptional talent and should take pride in their remarkable accomplishments. Well done!

The show will be held at the Pioneer Theatre from Thursday 20th June to Saturday 29th June. Oceania Area Athletics Championships

Congratulations to Myles Ashby (Year 11) who competed in the U18 Men鈥檚 5km walk at the Oceania Area Athletics Championships in Suva, Fiji. Myles won bronze for Australia.

2024 Australian Little League Championship 

Congratulations to Zander Puleo (Year 7) and Hayden Love (Year 7) who both recently competed in the Australian Little League Championships. Their team achieved an mazing result of third place. 

The College is continually thankful for our community's continued generosity and support in our fundraising endeavours. This year funds raised will support the acquisition of AV equipment for the new Commons and Atrium buildings.

At Gala Day, we raised over $110,000, achieving a net profit of $69,733.86. In line with our commitment, the P&F will be donating $6,974.00 to The Breakfast Club at La Salle Technical College Hohola in Papua New Guinea.

The College also had the pleasure of presenting Matthew Dowers (Class of 2018) with his brand new 2024 Mazda CX-3, the major prize in the P&F Gala Day raffle! Matthew was very pleased to receive this incredible car and is still amazed he was the winner.

Two 缅北强奸 alumni, Flynn Angles-Corke (Class of 2019) and Jacob Harrington (Class of 2016) recently completed a 100km run for Cancer. Supporting them along the way were other 缅北强奸 alumni who also completed the event. It was amazing to witness some great 缅北强奸 relationships that have been sustained over the years.

Fylnn and Jacob set their fundraising goal at $2500,  they are now at $6200, a remarkable achievement.
